Drift Museum, an upcoming landmark cultural institution in Amsterdam, is seeking an exceptional Senior Technical Director (m/f/x) to lead the vision, strategy, and delivery of all technical operations.
Opening in late 2025, Drift Museum is a groundbreaking collaboration between Studio Drift and the owner of the Van Gendt Hallen. The museum will present large-scale kinetic installations and cutting-edge innovations at the intersection of nature, technology, and art, a living platform where engineering excellence meets artistic ambition.
As Senior Technical Director, you will be the driving force behind the museum’s technical infrastructure, ensuring every exhibition operates flawlessly, safely, and with the highest artistic integrity. This is a rare opportunity to build and lead the technical foundation of a world-class institution from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

● Strategic leadership: Define, implement, and oversee the museum’s long-term technical strategy, aligning with artistic and operational goals.

● Systems oversight: Lead the design, integration, and maintenance of all technical systems, including exhibition lighting, audio, power distribution, and network infrastructure.

● Exhibition fidelity: Ensure kinetic artworks, interactive installations, and digital media run seamlessly, meeting both technical specifications and artistic vision.

● Team leadership: Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing technical team, fostering innovation, skill development, and operational efficiency.

● Technology management: Direct the integration and maintenance of the ShowControl system, IT networks, and all technology supporting the visitor experience.

● Project coordination: Oversee technical planning and execution for exhibitions and special events, collaborating closely with Studio Drift.

● Budget & procurement: Manage the technical operations budget, negotiate with suppliers, and oversee purchasing of equipment and services.
Functie eisen

● Minimum 10 years of senior technical leadership in a cultural, live events, or entertainment industries environment.

● Strong leadership skills, with experience building and managing multi-disciplinary technical teams.

● Excellent communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

● Degree in engineering or a related field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, aerospace,
systems engineering), not required but a plus.

concept to delivery.
